Douglas W. Lucak, age 63, artist and photographer passed away on November 30, 2022. Life partner of the late Thomas Hawn; dear son of Doris (nee Kulwicki) and John (deceased); brother of Jeffery (Linda) and Denise (Ahmed) Rubaai; uncle of Alexandra, Elizabeth, Zach, Noah and Alex; cousin and friend of many.
Douglas’ photographs celebrated the everyday experiences of the urban/industrial communities throughout Northeast Ohio. His goal in his work was not just to produce a literal depiction of the urban landscape, but to convey the human condition. Living and working in the Cleveland neighborhoods allowed him to see the greatness in the imperfections of daily life. He used simple and primitive pinhole cameras to produce his images. In a single exposure, he was able to record a great deal of information since he was able to obtain a remarkable depth of field with the use of this camera. In addition to Douglas’ photographic art, he was a disc jockey of vinyl and LP records.
