Lillian Mooney (nee Harnett), age 99, passed away on April 22, 2025. Beloved wife for 67 years of the late Mills D. Mooney. Lillian is survived by her daughter, Jeanne Marie Hertzel (Brian-deceased), and daughter in law, Julia (nee Faucher) Mooney; grandchildren, Stephen Hertzel, Christine Hertzel, Katie Hertzel and Mackenzie Mooney; great grandson, Lucas Hertzel, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Joseph Mooney, and siblings, Joanne Steakelum (Robert), Mary Ita Mooney (Thomas), James J. Harnett (Eleanor), Eileen Phelan (John), John J. Harnett (Irene) and Noreen Malanphy (John).
Lillian graduated from College of Mount Saint Vincent in 1948 with a Bachelor’s degree in History and from Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service in 1952 with a Masters of Social Work.
Her career as a social worker included The New York Foundling, Catholic Charities and lastly with the Fairport Central Schools.
Lillian enjoyed acting and directing for community theater in Port Washington, NY and later with the Rochester Community Players where she was presented with the RCP Dionysos award. She was an avid reader and a lifelong learner.
