Mills D. Mooney, age 96, passed away on December 18, 2021. Mills is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Lillian (nee Harnett); daughter, Jeanne Marie Hertzel, (Brian-deceased) and daughter in law, Julie (nee Faucher) Mooney; grandchildren, Stephen Hertzel, Christine Hertzel, Katie Hertzel and Mackenzie Mooney; great grandson, Lucas Hertzel, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Joseph, and sister, Lucille Beckett (Peter-deceased).
Mills proudly served his country as a Merchant Marine in World War II and again in the United States Army in Korea.
After attending Nichols Junior College (class of 1948), Mills began his career as a coffee roaster and distributor when he joined his father’s coffee roasting business, H. Mills Mooney & Son in New York City. He later moved his family to Rochester, N.Y. to continue his career until his retirement.
Mills was an avid sailor and raced sailboats from Manhasset Bay Yacht Club, Long Island N.Y.. His retirement project was refurbishing a 1939 Chris Craft Runabout which he enjoyed showing with the Manotic Boat Club in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
